Revelation 8:7. First Trumpet

First Trumpet

Rev 8:7 The first angel sounded: And hail and fire followed mingled with blood, and they were thrown to the earth. And a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.

Rev 8:7 in the Greek text. And the first one sounded his trumpet, and there occurred hail and fire having been mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and a third of the earth was burned up and a third of the trees was burned up and all grass green was burned up.

What does the word earth mean in the book of Revelation?

A short word study on the word “earth.”

Rev 9:1. I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. (The star represents Satan. Rev 20:1-3. Luk 10:18. The earth means the whole world).

Rev 9:3.4. Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as scorpions of the earth have power. They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. (The earth in this text means the area of the earth where Gods believing people live).

Rev 6:10. (The cry of the martyrs under the fifth seal) And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” (The earth in this text means the area of the earth where Gods believing people live).

Rev 7:2.3. Then I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying,”Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.” (Following the rule that if the context is symbolic then the verse is to be interpreted symbolic. The sea is symbolic of wicked nations. Isaiah 57:20 . The trees are symbolic of believing people in God both present and fallen Math 3:7-10. The earth is symbolic of Protestant believers in the USA who have fallen from the grace of God Rev 13:11-18).

Rev 10:2. He (angel) had a little book open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land. (The earth means the whole world).

Rev 11:6. (Refers to the two witnesses) They have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire. (The earth in this text means the area of the earth where Gods believing people live).

Rev 11:10. And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth. (The earth in this text means the area of the earth where Gods believing people live e.g. Europe and North America).

Rev 12:6. Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days. (The earth in this text means the area of the earth where Gods believing people live e.g. Europe and North America).

Rev 12:12. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time. (The earth means the whole world).

Rev 12:13. Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child. (The earth in this text means the area of the earth where Gods believing people live e.g. Israel, Europe and North America).

Rev 12:14-16. But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. (The time, times and half a time is equivalent to the one thousand two hundred and sixty days prophecy which is from A.D. 538-1798, during the Middle Ages of papal rule. Satan through the papacy persecuted and killed over 50 million Roman Catholic members in their church because they became Protestants, that is they protested against the papacy for having absolute rule and authority over the church and absolution of sins. When the earth helped these Protestants, it means they escaped to other places in Europe and North America).

Rev 13:11. Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. (This beast is referring to the rise of USA in North America after the Middle Ages).

Rev 13:13. He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on earth in the sight of men. (The earth represents in this text a place where God´s people are, that is Protestants in the USA).

Rev 13:14. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast. (The earth represents in this text a place where God´s people are, that is Protestants in the USA. These Protestants will become deceived by the signs, which occur in the church. For more information read my analysis of the chapter on my website).

Rev 16:2. So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshipped his image. (This is referring to all people on the earth who worship on Sunday as a holy day instead of the Bible Sabbath as a holy day).

Rev 18:11. The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her (Babylon), for no one buys their merchandise anymore. (Babylon represents all the fallen churches in the world who do not keep the ten commandments of God and the faith of Jesus Christ. Rev 12:17. The merchants represent all the priests, cardinals, bishops, popes, ministers and evangelists in all the fallen churches of the world. The fallen churches are spread throughout the whole of the earth).

Rev 18:23. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. (The merchants represent all the priests, cardinals, bishops, popes, ministers and evangelists in all the fallen churches of the world).

Conclusion

The word earth represents the whole world, part of the world where God´s believing people live, Protestant believers in the USA, Europe and North America, God´s people in Israel, and all people in the world who keep Sunday as a holy day instead of the Bible Sabbath will receive the first plague. To interpret earth literally or symbolically depends on the context it is used in.

Rev 8:7 in the Greek text. And the first one sounded his trumpet, and there occurred hail and fire having been mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and a third of the earth was burned up and a third of the trees was burned up and all grass green was burned up.

Explanation of the text

The earth is a place where the majority of God´s believing people have lived, after the ascension of Christ to the heavenly sanctuary Rev 1:12-16. A third of the trees burnt up, represent the Christian leaders of the Church who have been persecuted and have missed their lives from the first century to the fourth century. All green grass burnt up represent all people living in the region were Christians have lived, and were destroyed by the persecutions that came upon the church.

Acts 8:1-3. Now Saul was consenting to his death. At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison.

Acts 12,1.2. Now about that time Herod the King stretched out his hand to harass some from the church. Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

“These persecutions, beginning under Nero about the time of the martyrdom of Paul, continued with greater or less fury for centuries. Christians were falsely accused of the most dreadful crimes and declared to be the cause of great calamities-famine, pestilence, and earthquake. As they became the objects of popular hatred and suspicion, informers stood ready, for the sake of gain, to betray the innocent. They were condemned as rebels against the empire, as foes of religion, and pests to society. Great numbers were thrown to wild beasts or burned alive in the amphitheaters.  Some were crucified; others were covered with skins of wild animals and thrust into the arena to be torn by dogs. Their punishment was often made the chief entertainment at public fetes.”[1] Confrontation page 40.

(Persecutions by pagan Rome under Nero, A.D.54-68) Tacitus tells realistically how “they were covered with wild beasts´ skins and torn to death by dogs or were fastened on crosses and, when daylight failed, were burned to serve as lamps at night.” This was in connection with Nero´s “spectacle” in his circus where he appeared in the habit of a charioteer or mounted on his car. Tacitus adds that, despite their deserved punishment, a sentiment of pity arose because of the belief that they were being sacrificed not for the State´s welfare but because of one man´s ferocity.[2]

Persecutions against Christians took place by pagan Rome under Domitian, A.D.81-96, under Trajan, A.D. 98-117, under Hadrian, A.D. 117-138, under Marcus Aurelius, A.D.161-180, under Septimius Serverus, A.D.193-211, under Maximinus Thrax, A.D.235-238, under Decius, A.D.249-251, under Valarian, A.D.253-260, under Aurelian, A.D.270-275, under Diocletian, A.D.284-305.
