Revelation 19

Rev 19.1.2. And after these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honour and power belong to the Lord our God. For true and righteous are his judgments, because he has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and he has avenged on her the blood of his servants shed by her.”

Rev 18: writes about the judgment and the fall of Babylon representing the fallen world-wide church. It is God who has judged Babylon the great harlot in Rev 19:1.2.

There are two women in the book of Revelation. One woman is a symbol of the true church keeping the Ten Commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ Rev 12:1.17. The other woman is the harlot who is symbol of all people who do not keep the Ten Commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. This harlot represents the fallen world-wide church as outlined in Rev 17:

Rev 19:1.2. says that this harlot has corrupted the earth with her fornication. What does this fornication mean? For a full explanation see my website www.ayindk.com/Rev 17:2. Rev 18:3. In short it represents false teachings and false gods in opposition to the teachings in the Bible and God almighty.

Rev 19:1.2. He has avenged on her the blood of his servants shed by her.

When did this blood of God´s servants occur? During the Dark Middle Ages 538-1798, when the papacy was responsible for the killing of over 50 million Roman Catholic church members by burning at the stake because they followed the teachings of the Bible and not of the papacy.

Rev 19:7-9. Let us be glad and rejoice and give him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his wife has made herself ready. And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, “Write: Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!”

Who is the bride whom Christ is married to?

Ephesians 5:23.25. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church. Husbands love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for her.

Jeremiah 3:6. (Refers to Israel). The Lord said also to me in the days Josiah the king, “Have you seen what backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up on every high mountain and under every tree, and there played the harlot.

Jeremiah 3:14. “Return O backsliding children,” says the Lord, “for I am married to you.”

Jeremiah 3:8. The I saw that for all the causes for which backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a certificate of divorce, yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlotry also.

Isaiah 62:1. (This verse refers to the city of Jerusalem). For Zion´s sake I will not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem`s sake I will not rest, until her righteousness goes fourth as brightness and her salvation as a lamp that burns.

Isaiah 62:5. And as a bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.

It is interesting to note that Ellen G. White writes, “The marriage represents the reception by Christ of his kingdom. The Holy City, the New Jerusalem, which is the capital and representative of the kingdom, is called the bride, the Lamb´s wife. Clearly, then, the bride represents the Holy City, and the virgins that go out to meet the bridegroom are a symbol of the church. In the Revelation the people of God are said to be guests at the marriage supper. Rev 19:9. If guests, they cannot be represented also as the bride.”[1]

So, she says the bride in this context of Rev 19:9 represents the Holy City and the kingdom of Christ, agreeing with the concept in the Bible that the bride of Christ has many meanings depending on the context.

Rev 19:8. And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

Does the linen represent the righteous acts of the saints or Christ´s righteousness?

Matthew 10:41. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man´s reward.

Mathew 13:17. I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see and did not see it – – -.

Matthew 13:43. Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father.

Matthew 23:28. Even so you (the Pharisees Mat 23:27.) also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

Mark 2:17. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Romans 3:10. As it is written: There is none righteous no, not one.

Romans 5:19. For as by one man´s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by on man´s obedience many will be made righteous.

1 John 2:1. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

1 John 3:12. Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother´s righteous.

Conclusion

Righteous men are believers in God and evil wicked men are not righteous. There is none righteous in the sight of God. We are made righteous by one man: Jesus Christ´s obedience. True linen represents the righteous acts of the saints, while false linen represents the evil and wicked acts of the ungodly.

“By their wedding garment in the parable is represented (Matthew 22:1-14) the pure, spotless character which Christ´s true followers will possess. To the Church it is given `that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white, ` `not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing. ` Rev 19:8. The fine linen, says the Scripture, is the righteousness of the saints. ` Ephesians 5:27. It is the righteousness of Christ, His own unblemished character, that through faith is imparted to all who receive him as their personal Saviour.”[2]

Rev 19:9. “Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!”

What is this marriage supper of the Lamb?

This supper is also mentioned in Rev 19:17.18. Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, “Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great.”

Now this is symbolic language describing some kind of war.

Why do the birds of the air eat the flesh of humans? This was an Old Testament phrase used to describe the enemy’s outcome and the dreaded end of their life, e.g. 1 Samuel 17:44-46. (These verses describe the battle between David and Goliath). And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!” Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defiled.”

“This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.”

Birds of prey are also named in the New Testament like in Luke 17:34-37. “I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.” And they answered and said to him, Where Lord?” So he said to them, “Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.”

When do these birds of prey like eagles eat their prey of people who are taken? This occurs at the marriage supper of Christ and when the New Jerusalem descends out of heaven to this earth. This marriage supper can only take place after the 1,000 years millennium and not before. Hence, Rev 19:11-21 is not describing the Second Coming of Christ as many Bible commentaries explain and I the author of this study has believed, but it is referring to the third coming of Christ after the 1,000 years millennium and after the second resurrection.

Rev 19:10. And I fell at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

What does the testimony of Jesus mean in the book of Revelation?

Rev 1:1.2. The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants – things which must shortly take place. And he sent and signified it by his angel of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ to all things that he saw.

Rev 1:9. I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Rev 6:9. When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held.

Rev 11:7. When they finished their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit (Satan) will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. (They refers to the Old Testament and the New Testament and those Christians who believe in the Bible).

Rev 12:11. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. (Christian believers).

Rev 12:17. The dragon was wroth with the woman and the remnant of her seed, those who keep the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Conclusion

The testimony of Jesus Christ are related to the following: Word of God, Revelation of Jesus Christ in the book of Revelation, Worship God, Spirit of prophecy, the commandments of God, overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb and they did not love their lives unto death.

Rev 19:11. Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And he who sat on him was called Faithfull and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.

Why a white a horse?

Rev 6:2. And I Looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. (See my website www.ayindk.com/Rev 6:1.2., for a full explanation of a white horse). In short, a white horse is related to the following: horses in the Bible are used and are related to war, battle, army, to conquer, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, to kill, death and hades, hunger, plagues, judgment and the military.

This white horse in Rev 19:11 is not related to saving the righteous saints, but it is going into battle or war to inflict punishment and judgment on sinners who have not repented. This is a large military exercise.

Rev 19:11. And he who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.

Who is the rider of the white horse called Faithfull and True?

Rev 1:5. And from Jesus Christ, the Faithfull witness.

Rev 3:14. These things says the Amen, the Faithfull and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God.

Conclusion

The Faithfull and True Witness is Jesus Christ.

Rev 19:11. And in righteousness he judges and makes war.

He judges and makes war could refer to Armageddon or the war after the 1000 years millennium. The great question is which one? We find out when we carry on with our study in Rev 19:11-21.

Rev 19:12. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except himself.

What does eyes like a flame of fire mean symbolically?

Rev 1:14. His head and hair were like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes like a flame of fire. (This is Christ in this text representing as our High Priest in the heavenly sanctuary as he goes between the seven golden lampstands. Rev 1:13. He is clothed with a garment down to his feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. The seven lampstands represent the seven churches from the time of Christ to the Second Coming of Christ. Rev 1:20.)

Daniel 10:6. His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightening, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in colour, and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude. (This text is related to verses 13 and 20 where Michael a symbol of Christ is fighting the prince of Persia so as to establish the kingdom of Greece as foretold on Daniel 2: the prophecy of the statue revealing different Empires that will rule the world).

Conclusion

Eyes like a flame of fire indicate that Christ in Revelation is fighting for the church in different time periods through history in the future. In addition, Christ in Daniel 10: was fighting the Prince of Persia so as to establish the kingdom of Greece as foretold in Daniel 2:

Rev 19:12. And on his head were many crowns.

In the Greek the word crowns is δίαδηματα in the Greek, which is from the root word diadems.

Walter Brown says the word means the sign of royalty. It is a blue band trimmed with white, on the tiara, hence a symbol of royalty.[3]

In Rev 19:12 it is Jesus Christ who has many crowns and not just one crown of divine royal authority from heaven. When he has many crowns, this means he has the ultimate divine royal power and authority. Christ has the divine royal power and authority to go into war and he has the right to judge all nations and inflict punishment upon all the wicked non-believers on the earth.

Rev 19:12. He had a name written that no one knew except himself.

Christ has many names used in many situations, but Christ here does not want anyone to know his name because of the circumstances he is using it. That is, he is going into war to annihilate all non-believers who have rebelled against him on the earth. This is an event he does not want to remember. On the other hand, God is with his people who believe in him as their God. Matthew 1:23. Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, which is translated “God with us.” Hence, God is not with all the non-believers who rebel against him and make war against him, and he does not want his name to be known in this situation.

Rev 19:13. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God.

This verse is a very important verse and indicator of which war the text is talking about.

What does it mean when Christ´s robe is dipped in blood?

Isaiah 63:1-3. Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah, this one who is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? “I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.” Why is your apparel red, and your garments like one who treads in the winepress? “I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with me. For I have trodden them in my anger and trampled them in my fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon my garments, and I have stained all my robes. Verse 4. For the day of vengeance is in my heart, and the year of my redeemed has come. Verse 6. I have trodden down the peoples in my anger, made them drunk in my fury and brought down their strength to the earth.”

In this text the day of fury and vengeance is likened to a winepress. A winepress in Palestine today is about two-meter square or round, made from stone and is divided into two sections: the one lower than the other. The higher section was where the grapes were put and then they were trampled down with the feet of humans. The hem of their robes or dresses were sprinkled with red juice from the grapes. This juice then ran through a conduit to the lower section where it was taken up and poured into sacks made from sheep or goat skins.

In Rev 19:15 Christ is pictured as treading the wine press of the fierceness of his wrath. But instead of treading grapes into juice, he is treading upon the wicked non-believers and his robe is dipped in blood. Rev 19:13.

In Isaiah 63:1-6 the prophet writes about the victory of the Messiah (Jesus Christ) over all his enemies like the people from Edom who were the descendants of Esau. The Messiah treads the winepress of his fury against the Edomites.

In Rev 14:17-20 is a similar description of treading the winepress of God´s fury over all the wicked non-believers over all the earth. “And another angel came from the altar, who had power over fire, and he cried with a loud cry to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, `Thrust in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for her grapes are fully ripe.` So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horse’s bridles, for one thousand six hundred furlongs.” (1,600 furlongs=184 miles=296 kilometres).

There are two instances that reveal the place and time when this happens in Rev 14:17-20.

Conclusion

So now we have the place and time of the treading of the winepress of God´s fury upon the wicked non-believers. It is not at the Second Coming of Christ as many Bible commentaries indicate, but it is after the 1,000 year-millennium, after the second resurrection and after the third coming of Christ to this earth. In fact, the whole of Rev 19:1.21 refers to the time after the 100 year-millennium, after the second resurrection and after the third coming of Christ to this earth. This is the marriage of the Lamb Jesus Christ to the New city of Jerusalem and all the saints are invited to the marriage supper.

Let us carry on with the verse in Rev 19:13. His name is called the Word of God.

Where do we find the Word of God in the Bible?

John 1:1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory – – -.

Conclusion

These verses in John 1:1.14. refer to Jesus Christ being the Word of God who dwelt among us.

Rev 19:14. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed him on white horses.

Who are the armies in heaven?

Matthew 24:31. And he will send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Matthew 25:31. When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him.

Hebrews 12:22. But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels.

2 Kings 6:16.17. (The Syrian army was sent to Dothan to capture Elisha the prophet, because he was revealing the where-abouts of the king of Syria and his plans to make war with Israel, to the king of Israel. The Syrian army surrounded the city of Dothan). So, he answered (his servant), “Do not fear, for who are with us are more than those who are with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

When-ever many horses are used in vision in prophecy they are always related to battle, war or going in for an attack against the enemy. See my website www.ayindk/What do horses mean in prophecy?

Rev 19:15. Now out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should strike the nations.

What is the prophetic symbol of a sword which is ρομφαία in the Greek?

Rev 19:21. And the rest were killed with a sword which proceeded from the mouth of him who sat on the horse.

Rev 1:16. He (Christ) had in his right hand seven stars, out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and his countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.

Rev 2:12. And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write, “These things says he who has the sharp two-edged sword.”

Rev 2:16. Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Rev 6:8. So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was death, and Hades followed him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.

Luke 2:35. (Simon says to Mary in the temple). A sword shall pierce through thy own soul.
